ROLE OVERVIEW

Amgen's Business Analytics & Insights (BAI) team acts as a strategic nerve centre for the company's global commercial organisation, translating complex market signals into the forecasts that underpin investment decisions across the pipeline. This Manager – Commercial Forecasting role, based in Amgen's Hyderabad hub, sits at the intersection of patient epidemiology, competitive intelligence and revenue planning, producing the patient-, Rx- and revenue-based models that guide long-range plans and annual operating plans for therapeutic areas with breakaway potential. Because Amgen India works in lockstep with counterparts in the United States and Portugal, the position offers genuine global exposure that is rarely available in domestic pharma analytics roles. For a forecasting professional who wants their modelling assumptions to shape portfolio-level decisions, this is a rare opportunity to move from number-crunching to decision-shaping.

ROLE DEFINITION & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • •Build, maintain and enhance Excel-based forecast models covering patient-based, Rx-based, sales and revenue scenarios for pipeline and inline assets.
  • •Develop long-range plan (LRP) and annual operating plan (AOP) forecasts in partnership with Commercial, Finance and Value & Access teams.
  • •Interpret large datasets from internal systems, syndicated sources such as IQVIA and Evaluate, and custom analytics to derive defensible assumptions.
  • •Integrate market dynamics, competitor intelligence and epidemiology into scenario forecasts, articulating rationale clearly to senior stakeholders.
  • •Collaborate with forecasting colleagues in the U.S., Portugal and India contract teams to align methodology, templates and deliverable timelines.
  • •Drive standardisation of model builds and contribute reusable forecasting frameworks, tools and templates for the Amgen India hub.
  • •Apply generative AI and agentic research tools to accelerate insight generation and automate repetitive analytical workflows.
  • •Track forecasting best practices such as probabilistic modelling and digital workflows, embedding learnings into team capability.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy, Life Sciences, Economics, Statistics, Engineering or an MBA from a recognised institution.
  • 8–13 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical forecasting, commercial analytics or business intelligence within a pharma or biotech organisation.
  • Proven expertise in patient-based and demand-based forecasting methodologies for pharmaceutical products.
  • Advanced Excel modelling proficiency, with working knowledge of Python and/or SQL for data manipulation.
  • Hands-on familiarity with syndicated pharmaceutical data sources such as IQVIA, Evaluate and internal CRM systems.
  • Demonstrated experience working in cross-cultural, virtual teams across multiple geographies and time zones.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to run multiple forecast cycles simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • •Experience with agentic research platforms and AI-assisted workflows
  • •Therapeutic area knowledge in oncology, inflammation or cardiometabolic disease
  • •Forecasting for pipeline and launch assets
  • •Data visualisation with Tableau or Power BI

TEAM SIZE: 25,000+ employees
INDUSTRY: Biotechnology / Pharmaceuticals

EXPECTED CAREER ROADMAP

In two to three years, a high-performing Manager can progress to Senior Manager of Forecasting or Associate Director within BAI, taking ownership of a full therapeutic area or a global launch forecast. Because the role interfaces with Commercial, Finance, Value & Access and Medical, lateral moves into Market Access & Pricing, Commercial Strategy, Business Development or Finance business partnering are realistic. Many professionals with this profile eventually step into Director-level Commercial Analytics or HEOR leadership, or cross over to consulting, market research and biotech commercial planning roles in India, the U.S. or Europe. Amgen India's continued hub expansion also creates early leadership openings for those who build reusable forecasting frameworks.

APPLICATION ADVISORY

Lead your resume with forecast ownership: name the therapeutic areas, asset sizes and model types (patient, Rx, revenue) you built, and quantify their business impact. Be ready to walk an interviewer through a forecast you constructed end-to-end, covering assumptions, data sources, sensitivity analysis and how you defended it to leadership. Revise IQVIA data structures, patient-flow epidemiology and LRP/AOP cycles. Prepare one example of using generative AI to speed analysis, and demonstrate cross-time-zone collaboration. State Excel modelling fluency explicitly; Python or SQL examples add credibility.
