ROLE OVERVIEW

Abbott's Established Pharmaceuticals Division (EPD) is a cornerstone of the company's emerging-market growth engine, and the GI Prospera franchise sits at the centre of its gastroenterology portfolio. As Therapy Business Manager, you own a defined territory — the requisition references Gorakhpur in the title while the requisition location is Abbott's Bangalore (Thungs Tower) office — and act as the commercial face of the division to gastroenterologists, consulting physicians, chemists and stockists. This is a high-autonomy, high-visibility field role: prescription generation, market-share expansion and relationship depth with key stakeholders directly shape divisional revenue. For professionals who want an MNC-caliber commercial career, Abbott offers structured selling systems, therapy-focused training and a clear pathway into senior sales and brand leadership across its India and global EPD network.

ROLE DEFINITION & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • •Deliver assigned territory and geography-wise sales targets for the GI Prospera therapy portfolio on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • •Execute structured field work independently, planning daily doctor, chemist and stockist calls without direct day-to-day supervision.
  • •Log all field activity daily in Abbott's assigned online SFA/CRM reporting system with accurate call and coverage data.
  • •Meet or exceed Call Average, Coverage and Frequency norms mandated for the assigned division and therapy cluster.
  • •Drive maximum prescriptions and grow market share for promoted products in line with the division's strategic brand plan.
  • •Build and sustain long-term relationships with prescribing doctors, chemists, stockists, hospital pharmacies and institutional buyers.
  • •Contribute field intelligence — competitor activity, pricing pressure, prescription trends — to feed divisional strategy building.
  • •Represent Abbott with professionalism as an approved brand ambassador at CMEs, medical college meets and therapy awareness events.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • BSc or B.Pharm degree from a recognised institution; an MBA or PGDM in Marketing/Business is an advantage.
  • Minimum 2+ years of pharmaceutical field sales experience; freshers with strong communication and analytical aptitude may also be considered.
  • Prior or current experience in the same therapy area (gastroenterology, proctology or general medicine) is strongly preferred.
  • Candidates from MNC pharma or top-tier Indian pharmaceutical companies will carry an added advantage.
  • Fluent, confident verbal and written communication in English and the local working language.
  • Physically fit and willing to travel 100% of working time, including continuous standing for extended periods during field calls.
  • Valid two-wheeler/car driving licence and willingness to relocate to or already reside in the assigned territory.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • •Hands-on experience with GI, proctology or general-medicine brands
  • •Exposure to MNC SFA platforms such as Veeva or Salesforce
  • •Key Account Management with hospitals and medical colleges
  • •Proven record of exceeding sales quotas in a similar territory
  • •Local language proficiency beyond English (Hindi/regional)

EXPECTED CAREER ROADMAP

A Therapy Business Manager at Abbott typically progresses into Area Business Manager or Regional Sales Manager within 2–4 years, taking ownership of a team of therapy representatives and a larger revenue mandate. From there, high performers can move into Division/Brand Management, Key Account Management, or Therapy Marketing, where they shape national brand strategy and launch plans. Abbott's EPD structure also opens cross-country and cross-portfolio moves, including exposure to emerging-market divisions. Beyond Abbott, this experience is highly portable — candidates are regularly recruited into senior field-sales and brand roles at Sun Pharma, Cipla, Dr. Reddy's, Mankind, USV and other leading GI-focused companies, or into healthcare-tech and diagnostics commercial teams.

APPLICATION ADVISORY

Quantify your sales achievements — territory revenue, percentage growth, prescriptions generated and market-share gains — in the first third of your resume. Prepare for questions on how you build a doctor-wise call plan, handle a low-prescription KOL, manage chemist stock issues and meet Call Average/Coverage norms. Revise basic GI anatomy, common gastroenterology brands and competitor products in your territory. Highlight SFA/CRM hygiene and daily reporting discipline. In interviews, use the STAR format to narrate a territory turnaround, and demonstrate confident, fluent communication.
