About Medical & Scientific Writing roles

Medical writers produce the documents that carry scientific and clinical information to regulators, healthcare professionals and the public. Regulatory writers prepare clinical study protocols, clinical study reports, investigator brochures, patient narratives and sections of submission dossiers. Publication and medical communications writers create journal manuscripts, conference abstracts and posters, and educational material for doctors.

Good medical writing combines scientific accuracy with clear structure. Writers work from statistical outputs and source data, follow guidance such as ICH E3 for study reports and the CONSORT and GPP guidelines for publications, and manage review cycles with clinicians, statisticians and regulatory teams.

Candidates commonly hold a pharmacy, life-science, medical or PhD background. A writing sample or a short test is part of most hiring processes, so a portfolio of well-structured scientific documents is one of the strongest assets an applicant can bring.
