ROLE DEFINITION & RESPONSIBILITIES
Core Responsibilities
Drive and support comprehensive financial planning, budgeting, periodic forecasting, and long-range strategic financial planning for Amgen's Operations Finance organization.
Prepare, analyze, and present monthly and quarterly management financial packages, including detailed variance analyses, cost trend evaluations, and operational commentary.
Partner directly with Operations, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Procurement stakeholders to evaluate underlying business drivers, cost dynamics, financial risks, and capital allocation opportunities.
Lead operational expense tracking, cost center management, headcount planning, capital expenditure monitoring, and operational performance governance.
Perform rigorous variance analysis comparing actuals against budgets, latest forecasts, and prior periods to generate actionable strategic insights.
Execute month-end and quarter-end close activities, ensuring timely accruals, journal entry validations, balance sheet reconciliations, and strict adherence to internal controls.
Build scenario models, ad hoc business cases, and return-on-investment (ROI) analyses for continuous operational improvements and strategic manufacturing initiatives.
Technical & Financial Standards
In-depth expertise in corporate finance principles, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), managerial accounting, and cost center governance.
Hands-on proficiency with enterprise financial architectures and reporting systems such as SAP, S/4HANA, Hyperion, and Anaplan.
Advanced financial modeling capabilities using Microsoft Excel, Smartsheet, and modern AI productivity/code assistants (e.g., ChatGPT, Codex).
Deep understanding of internal financial controls, corporate governance, and standard accounting principles in global biopharmaceutical operations.
Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Act as an analytical and strategic business partner across cross-functional matrix teams including Global Supply Chain, Quality, Manufacturing, and Corporate Accounting.
Communicate complex financial metrics, variances, and strategic opportunities clearly and persuasively to senior finance leadership.
Champion process automation, reporting standardization, and continuous improvement across finance workflows.
