ROLE OVERVIEW

Abbott's Established Pharma Division (EPD) is a cornerstone of the company's India business, and the GI Prima portfolio sits at the heart of its gastroenterology franchise — a high-growth therapy area spanning proton-pump inhibitors, prokinetics, probiotics and digestive-health brands. The Therapy Business Manager (TBM) is the commercial face of this franchise across the Bathinda belt of Punjab, translating brand strategy into real prescriptions at the point of care. This is a genuinely entrepreneurial field role: you effectively own a territory's performance, build durable relationships with gastroenterologists, physicians, chemists and stockists, and see your impact reflected in weekly prescription audits. For ambitious pharma sales professionals, it offers structured MNC training, clear promotion pathways into Area Business Management, and the credibility of representing a globally respected healthcare brand.

ROLE DEFINITION & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • •Achieve monthly, quarterly and annual sales targets for the assigned Bathinda territory and GI Prima brand portfolio.
  • •Execute daily field work independently, planning and covering doctors, chemists and stockists as per approved coverage and frequency norms.
  • •Log every call, chemist visit and stock check in Abbott's online reporting system on a daily basis.
  • •Drive prescription generation and market-share growth for the division's gastroenterology products in line with brand strategy.
  • •Build and sustain relationships with key stakeholders — gastroenterologists, general practitioners, paediatricians, chemists and stockists.
  • •Monitor competitor activity and therapy trends, feeding actionable insights into divisional strategy building.
  • •Manage chemist stock, expiry and product availability so prescriptions convert into actual patient offtake.
  • •Represent Abbott as a credible brand ambassador at CMEs, conferences and doctor engagement programmes.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.Sc. (Life Sciences, Biology, Chemistry) or B.Pharm is the minimum educational requirement; M.Pharm or MBA is an advantage.
  • 2+ years of pharmaceutical field sales experience, ideally in gastroenterology, general medicine or another high-prescription therapy area.
  • Freshers with strong communication, analytical ability and willingness to travel may also be considered.
  • Prior or current experience in the same GI therapy area is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with MNC or top-tier Indian pharma companies will be an added advantage.
  • Fluent, confident communication in English, Hindi and Punjabi, with familiarity of the Bathinda/Punjab market.
  • Valid driving licence and readiness to travel approximately 100% of the time across the territory.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • •Key Opinion Leader (KOL) Engagement
  • •CME & New Product Launch Execution
  • •Territory Analytics Using Rx Trend Data

COMPENSATION & REWARDS

Salary: Competitive / Disclosed upon candidate shortlisting
For mid-level Therapy Business Managers with 2–4 years' experience in Punjab's pharma field market, fixed CTC typically ranges from ₹4.5–7.0 LPA. Performance-linked incentives, travel allowance and other benefits add roughly ₹1.5–3.0 LPA, taking total annual gross to about ₹6–9.5 LPA. MNC employers such as Abbott generally pay at the higher end with stronger benefits.

ORGANIZATION CONTEXT & CULTURE

Abbott is actively hiring for this position.

INDUSTRY: Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare

EXPECTED CAREER ROADMAP

From TBM, the standard Abbott progression is to Area Business Manager (ABM) within 2–3 years, then Regional or Zonal Business Manager, and eventually Divisional Sales Manager. High performers with strong analytics can pivot into Brand Management, Commercial Excellence, Key Account Management or Sales Training & Capability roles. Given Abbott EPD's broad portfolio, internal mobility into cardiac, diabetes, women's health or hospital-care divisions is common. Externally, TBMs with 4–6 years of GI/MNC experience are actively recruited by Sun Pharma, Cipla, Dr. Reddy's, USV and Mankind for ABM/RBM roles, often with 30–50% CTC jumps.

APPLICATION ADVISORY

Tailor your CV around metrics: territory size, number of doctors covered, Rx growth delivered and any top-performer rankings or awards. Highlight GI, general medicine or chronic-therapy exposure explicitly. In interview, expect questions on territory planning, how you revive a low-prescribing doctor, handling aggressive competitors and resolving chemist stock issues. Revise GI molecule classes — PPIs, prokinetics, probiotics, antispasmodics — and be ready to outline how you would build a launch plan for a new brand in Bathinda.
