Area Business Manager – Metabolics
By Admin · Pharma Sales, Marketing & Commercial
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Area Business Manager – Metabolics at Abbott is a frontline commercial leadership role within the company's Established Pharmaceuticals Division (EPD), one of the fastest-growing branded generics businesses in India. Metabolics — covering diabetes, thyroid, lipid and metabolic syndrome therapies — is a strategically critical portfolio for Abbott, sitting at the intersection of India's rapidly rising diabetic population and intense competition among multinational and top-tier Indian manufacturers. This position owns the Nagpur territory end-to-end: prescribing behaviour, chemist and stockist networks, and territory-level brand equity. Because Abbott EPD runs a lean, high-accountability field structure, the ABM has unusual autonomy in designing coverage plans and shaping local strategy. For pharma sales professionals, it is a strong platform to build therapeutic depth in a chronic-care specialty, gain exposure to MNC compliance standards, and accelerate toward senior sales leadership.
ROLE DEFINITION & RESPONSIBILITIES
- •Deliver assigned monthly, quarterly and annual sales targets across the Nagpur metabolics territory through disciplined territory planning and resource allocation.
- •Execute daily field work — approximately 10–12 doctor calls per day — consistently meeting the division's call average, coverage and frequency norms.
- •Drive prescription generation for Abbott's metabolics brands among diabetologists, endocrinologists, consulting physicians and general practitioners.
- •Build and sustain relationships with key stakeholders including prescribers, chemists, stockists and hospital pharmacy channels.
- •Log daily field activity accurately on Abbott's online SFA/CRM system and submit timely territory reports and forecasts.
- •Organise CMEs, brand promotion campaigns and patient-awareness initiatives to strengthen scientific recall of the portfolio.
- •Monitor competitor pricing, schemes and launch activity, feeding actionable market intelligence back to the Regional Sales Manager.
- •Manage stockist inventory, expiry and claims, and represent Abbott as a compliant brand ambassador under UCPMP and company code of conduct.
