ROLE DEFINITION & RESPONSIBILITIES
Core Responsibilities
Architect, construct, optimize, and manage scalable enterprise data infrastructure and complex data architectures across Amgen systems.
Design, build, deploy, and maintain robust batch and real-time data pipelines (ETL/ELT) to process large-scale structured and semi-structured datasets.
Develop, refine, and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models to support advanced analytics, machine learning, and enterprise reporting.
Implement robust data integration strategies connecting diverse clinical, commercial, supply chain, and research data sources.
Establish automated data quality frameworks, validation rules, metadata catalogs, and data governance standards to safeguard data integrity and compliance.
Lead performance tuning, query optimization, indexing strategies, and cost optimization across enterprise data platforms and data lakes.
Technical & Engineering Standards
Deep expertise in modern data engineering principles, distributed systems, big data architectures, and data modeling.
Strong programming proficiency in Python, Scala, Java, or SQL for data transformation, scripting, and pipeline orchestration.
Hands-on experience with modern cloud data platforms and big data frameworks (e.g., AWS, Azure, Snowflake, Databricks, Apache Spark, Airflow).
Solid understanding of data governance, security standards, schema evolution, and data lifecycle management in enterprise environments.
Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Serve as a senior technical leader within data engineering, mentoring junior engineers and reviewing pipeline code and designs.
Partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders including data scientists, analytics engineers, and business leaders to deliver high-impact data solutions.
Drive engineering best practices, CI/CD for data pipelines (DataOps), reusable architectural patterns, and continuous platform innovation.
