ROLE OVERVIEW

Amgen's Responsible AI Manager is a strategic governance leadership role embedded in the company's Artificial Intelligence & Data Science organization and anchored at the fast-growing Amgen India (AIN) site in Hyderabad. As generative AI and machine learning move deeper into target discovery, clinical development, manufacturing, and commercial analytics, regulators, quality functions, and patients increasingly demand demonstrable controls. This role is the practical bridge: translating enterprise Responsible AI standards, NIST AI RMF expectations, and EU AI Act concepts into decisions that product, engineering, and data science teams can actually act on. It is a rare opportunity to shape AI governance inside a global biotechnology pioneer, working shoulder-to-shoulder with Quality, Technology, Security, Privacy, and Legal, with visibility spanning discovery science to patient-facing programmes.

ROLE DEFINITION & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • •Drive implementation and adoption of enterprise AI governance requirements across Amgen India, ensuring expectations are visible, understood, and consistently applied.
  • •Partner early with product, engineering, data science, platform, and innovation teams to identify governance needs, risks, and decision points before delivery.
  • •Run office hours, targeted sessions, and practical clinics that build site-level fluency in risk-based Responsible AI decision making.
  • •Serve as a trusted advisor and single point of contact for teams interpreting AI standards, processes, and documentation expectations.
  • •Coordinate escalations with Quality, Technology, Security, Privacy, Legal, and business partners when AI governance questions require specialist input.
  • •Represent Responsible AI at Amgen India forums, events, and communities of practice, promoting responsible innovation culture.
  • •Surface recurring governance questions, pain points, and emerging risks, feeding local implementation insights back to the enterprise Responsible AI team.
  • •Partner with the AI & Data Science Center of Excellence on evaluation metrics, thresholds, and monitoring considerations tied to governance requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8–13 years of experience across AI/ML, AI product development, data science, machine learning, engineering, information systems, AI governance, technology risk, compliance, quality, or digital transformation.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional projects, programmes, or workstreams within a complex, matrixed global organization.
  • Working knowledge of modern AI systems, including generative AI and the end-to-end AI development lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with Responsible AI and AI risk management frameworks such as NIST AI RMF and EU AI Act concepts.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, data science, engineering, information systems, life sciences, law, or a related discipline; AI governance certification (e.g., IAPP AIGP) advantageous.
  • Proven ability to translate policy, risk, quality, privacy, or compliance expectations into practical guidance, documentation, and delivery-team action.
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills with the confidence to advise and influence without direct authority.

EXPECTED CAREER ROADMAP

This role sits at the intersection of AI, quality, and regulation, one of the fastest-growing specialisms in Indian life sciences. Within two to four years, a strong performer can progress to Senior Manager or Director, Responsible AI, or lead enterprise AI governance across global capability centres. Adjacent moves include Head of AI Risk & Compliance, AI Assurance Lead, or Digital Quality leadership inside pharma and medtech. Hyderabad's concentration of Novartis, Sanofi, AstraZeneca, and Microsoft-scale technology campuses creates strong external demand, while consulting firms, financial services, and AI assurance start-ups actively recruit governance professionals with NIST AI RMF and EU AI Act fluency.

APPLICATION ADVISORY

Tailor your CV around governance outcomes, not job duties: quantify how many AI use cases you reviewed, risk controls you built, or review boards you stood up. Prepare a crisp walkthrough of the NIST AI RMF functions (Govern, Map, Measure, Manage) applied to one generative AI use case. Bring a pharma-relevant example — AI in clinical development, pharmacovigilance, or manufacturing — and rehearse how you influenced engineers without authority. Highlight certifications such as IAPP AIGP or ISO/IEC 42001 awareness, and mention any exposure to GxP, privacy, or audit readiness.
