ROLE OVERVIEW
Provide scientific and technical leadership for peptide analytical development, supporting protein synthesis process development through experimental design, analytical method development, process understanding and technology transfer while leading a high-performing scientific team.
ROLE DEFINITION & RESPONSIBILITIES
- •Provide technical support for protein synthesis laboratory process development
- •Design, execute and analyze experiments to deepen process understanding and optimize reaction conditions
- •Develop analytical methods for key peptide synthesis process steps
- •Apply scientific principles to analytical and semi-preparative scale separation of manufacturing intermediates and drug substances
- •Apply knowledge of peptide chemistry and stability
- •Use and understand LC, GC, titration and mass spectrometry instrumentation
- •Support technology transfer of analytical methods and document work appropriately
- •Build, lead and develop a high-performing team of process chemists
- •Promote laboratory safety, scientific excellence, collaboration and compliance
Reporting Hierarchy: Reports within Lilly's Manufacturing and Quality technical organisation; Leads and develops a team of process chemists and collaborates with process development and analytical technical functions

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or another relevant scientific discipline, or Ph.D. plus postdoctoral experience in Chemistry with a focus on process chemistry
- 12+ years of relevant experience
- Strong knowledge of peptide chemistry and stability
- Experience with analytical method development and peptide process development
- Understanding of LC, GC, titration and mass spectrometry
- Experience leading scientific or process chemistry teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- •Postdoctoral research in process chemistry
- •Experience with technology transfer of analytical methods
- •Experience supporting manufacturing and quality technical operations
- •Experience with analytical and semi-preparative separation of peptide intermediates and drug substances
- •Domestic and international technical collaboration experience
