Job Overview
As a Database Management Specialist, the role serves as a Lead Programmer responsible for planning, coordinating, developing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting clinical database systems. The position requires advanced technical expertise, strong clinical domain knowledge, programming capabilities, database expertise, client interaction, and leadership within Clinical Data Programming teams.
Core Responsibilities
Serve as a Lead Programmer within Clinical Data Programming and Clinical Data Management activities.
Plan and coordinate database design, development, implementation, maintenance, and user support for clinical systems.
Provide advanced technical expertise to internal and external clients.
Program, test, and document databases in accordance with established programming standards and validation procedures.
Program database manipulations and data transfers for internal and external clients.
Mentor other team members and Lead Programmers by supporting technical and database expertise development and training.
Independently bring project solutions to Clinical Data Programming teams and the broader Clinical Data Programming department.
Collaborate with IT teams to evaluate, develop, and implement new technologies.
Develop, revise, and maintain core operating procedures and working instructions in collaboration with Clinical Data Programming management.
Meet assigned project milestones and work with project teams to organize timelines, responsibilities, and deliverables.
Develop and maintain effective communication and working relationships with internal teams and external clients.
Interact with corporate and Clinical Data Management team members to negotiate timelines, responsibilities, and deliverables when required.
Identify and contribute to process innovations and improvements.
Technical & Domain Expertise
Advanced knowledge of Oracle, SAS, Python, and R for Clinical Data Programming.
Knowledge and experience with leading technologies is considered an added advantage.
For Laboratory Data Programming activities, advanced knowledge of VGL and/or BizTalk and/or C# and/or .NET is relevant.
Strong understanding of the clinical drug development process and strong clinical domain knowledge.
Strong technical database capabilities, including database programming, testing, manipulation, transfer, documentation, and validation.
Ability to work according to programming standards and validation procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Life Sciences, or a related field is required.
Minimum 8 years of relevant work experience is required.
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Strong organizational, communication, technical database, and relationship-management capabilities are required.
Leadership & Business Impact
Lead programming responsibilities across clinical database activities.
Mentor team members and Lead Programmers and contribute to technical capability development.
Support project delivery by coordinating milestones, responsibilities, timelines, and deliverables.
Provide solutions independently to Clinical Data Programming teams.
Support technology evaluation and implementation in collaboration with IT.
Contribute to operating procedures, working instructions, process improvements, and innovation.
Maintain productive relationships with project teams, corporate teams, Clinical Data Management stakeholders, and external clients.
Client & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Provide advanced technical expertise in conjunction with internal and external clients.
Coordinate with project stakeholders on timelines, responsibilities, and deliverables.
Work closely with IT and Clinical Data Management teams.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, managers, and clients.
