ROLE OVERVIEW

Amgen's Operations Strategy & Business Resilience (OSBR) group functions as an internal management-consulting arm for the company's global manufacturing and supply organisation. This Associate Director role anchors the Amgen India (AIN) delivery hub in Hyderabad, translating demand from California-based leadership into prioritised, decision-ready analytics. The position matters because Amgen's biotechnology pipeline — biologics, biosimilars and next-generation medicines — depends on drug substance and drug product networks that must be modelled, stress-tested and capacity-planned years ahead. Leading eight to ten managers, the Associate Director ensures business cases, scenario models and network capacity analyses reach executive-grade quality. For seasoned pharma operations leaders, it is a rare opportunity to shape a greenfield capability centre while remaining close to global supply-chain strategy.

ROLE DEFINITION & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • •Lead, coach and develop a team of 8–10 Managers and Associate Managers delivering business cases, capacity analysis, scenario modelling, project management and executive-ready communication for global OSBR.
  • •Partner with global OSBR leadership to forecast demand, prioritise incoming requests and allocate workload across the AIN delivery team.
  • •Establish governance routines covering portfolio status tracking, workload reviews, risk and issue management, escalation paths, quality checks and delivery metrics.
  • •Pressure-test analyses by clarifying problem statements, aligning assumptions, validating inputs and defining decision-relevant outputs for manufacturing network strategy.
  • •Own business-continuity escalation, proactively surfacing resourcing gaps, analytical quality concerns, priority conflicts and stakeholder alignment risks.
  • •Build team capability in Smart Capacity outputs, drug substance and drug product network strategy, commercialisation processes and executive storytelling.
  • •Drive continuous improvement through standard templates, knowledge management, onboarding materials, analytical documentation and communication standards.
  • •Foster accountability, inclusion and high performance while maintaining flexible hours that overlap California (approximately 10:00–15:00 and 20:00–23:00 IST).

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 16–20 years of experience in pharmaceutical or biotech operations, supply-chain strategy, management consulting or manufacturing network planning.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, pharmacy, life sciences, operations or business; MBA or master's in supply chain/operations strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record leading teams of eight or more managers within a global capability centre or shared-services consulting model.
  • Deep exposure to drug substance/drug product manufacturing, capacity planning or integrated supply strategy.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver business cases, scenario models and network analyses to senior executives.
  • Excellent English executive communication skills and comfort working US-overlap hours.
  • Experience designing governance, PMO frameworks or continuous-improvement programmes.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • •Smart Capacity or digital-twin capacity tooling
  • •Prior management consulting or internal strategy experience
  • •Lean Six Sigma / continuous improvement certification
  • •Biologics and biosimilars manufacturing exposure

EXPECTED CAREER ROADMAP

This role sits at the top of an India-based delivery organisation and is a natural springboard into Director or Senior Director positions in Operations Strategy, Global Supply Chain, Network Strategy or Business Resilience within Amgen's worldwide footprint. Strong performers who demonstrate executive-level influence typically move into global OSBR leadership, site or network strategy ownership, or commercialisation and transformation roles. Beyond Amgen, the profile opens doors to supply-chain strategy leadership at Indian and multinational biopharma companies, CDMO and CRO operations strategy teams, and life-sciences consulting practices where capacity modelling and manufacturing network advisory command premium compensation.

APPLICATION ADVISORY

Emphasise scale: quantify team sizes led, portfolio value, number of business cases delivered and decision outcomes influenced. Prepare two or three stories on capacity modelling, scenario analysis or network strategy that show how your analytics changed a manufacturing or supply decision. Expect case-style questions on prioritising conflicting global demand with constrained headcount. Highlight experience managing US-overlap working hours and building a new capability centre. Tailor your resume to pharma/biotech operations vocabulary — drug substance, drug product, tech transfer, S&OP — and remove generic consulting jargon.
