ROLE DEFINITION & RESPONSIBILITIES
Role Overview
Sr. Validation Services Analyst at Clario, part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, responsible for leading software validation and quality activities for regulated clinical technology solutions. The role supports the accuracy, reliability, and validation of systems used by clinical-trial sponsors and sites, while contributing to software quality, data quality, regulatory compliance, team mentoring, and continuous improvement of validation practices.
Core Validation & Testing Responsibilities
Lead validation activities for clinical technology and software solutions.
Create and execute manual test scripts using defined validation protocols and testing techniques.
Coordinate creation and execution of automated test scripts supporting application releases.
Perform Smoke, Integration, System, Regression, and end-to-end testing.
Develop and utilize test-data sets for different validation scenarios.
Prepare test data and verify expected scenarios.
Load and run end-to-end jobs and verify data movement from source systems through reports and dashboards.
Track software versions, features, defects, and validation activities for software developed or modified by development teams.
Create validation documentation using defined documentation methods.
Develop test plans and test cases based on product requirements.
Work with application developers to resolve issues and perform retesting.
Evaluate and direct validation and quality-assurance approaches.
Assist with generation of project and validation status reports.
Data Validation & Analytics
Write complex SQL queries to validate data and investigate data-quality issues.
Work with database objects, with Snowflake preferred.
Apply SQL, PL/SQL, PySpark, and related query techniques to cover data scenarios and tune queries.
Validate data across source systems, ETL processes, reports, and dashboards.
Apply knowledge of data-quality fundamentals and data-governance concepts.
Work with Data Lakes, Data Warehouses, ETL projects, and Big Data projects across on-premises and cloud environments.
Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI is preferable.
Programming & Technical Environment
Work with SAS applications and Python programming.
Experience with ETL technologies such as Informatica PowerCenter, SAS, and PL/SQL.
Apply SQL and Python/PySpark for data validation and quality analysis.
Support validation of cloud and on-premises technologies.
Experience with web-based SAS platforms is preferred.
Quality, Risk & Compliance
Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for quality issues.
Develop and execute Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
Conduct risk assessments and implement risk mitigation activities.
Establish and enforce departmental validation standards.
Read, understand, and adhere to organizational SOPs.
Create documentation supporting regulated validation activities.
Apply knowledge of FDA requirements for GxPs and 21 CFR Part 11.
Understand software quality assurance requirements in a clinical-data environment.
Project Delivery & Tools
Apply SDLC, Iterative, Agile, Scrum, and Kanban delivery methodologies.
Work with ALM and collaboration tools including JIRA, TFS/Azure DevOps, and Confluence.
Collaborate with technical staff, project managers, product managers, application developers, and business teams.
Review project specifications and communicate business or technical impacts.
Manage multiple tasks independently and as part of cross-functional teams.
Participate in company-sponsored training and provide training to other Validation Services team members.
Leadership & Continuous Improvement
Mentor and educate validation-services team members to ensure quality deliverables.
Explore opportunities to improve departmental and organizational processes.
Improve product test coverage and testing effectiveness.
Support quality deliverables within required timelines.
Communicate effectively across functions and management levels.
Demonstrate initiative, creativity, and ownership in validation activities.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent relevant experience in a software-testing environment.
Approximately 7-10 years of software-quality testing experience.
In-depth understanding of software quality assurance, preferably within a clinical-data environment.
Strong experience creating test plans and test cases from product requirements.
Strong SQL and data-validation capabilities.
Knowledge of the Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC) and document management.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Expertise
Test automation and testing frameworks.
Snowflake database experience.
Cloud-based testing.
Python programming.
Web-based SAS platforms.
Tableau or Power BI.
Data Lakes, Data Warehouses, ETL, and Big Data environments.
