Position Purpose
Responsible for medical and scientific support and technical advice to Business Units and Pharmacovigilance, Medical Information and Clinical Research teams within assigned therapeutic areas. Oversees Medical Affairs activities in India for assigned therapeutic/product areas and collaborates with regional and global Medical Affairs functions. Provides medical-scientific support and training to marketing and sales teams, maintains current product and development-project knowledge, reviews promotional materials for compliance with global SOPs and local laws, monitors competitor medical-marketing activities, supports regulatory/PV/MI/clinical research teams, and develops relationships with thought leaders and external medical experts.
Core Responsibilities
Provide timely and appropriate medical review and approval of promotional materials and evaluate challenging competitor promotional activities where appropriate.
Support Business Units in translating medical data into marketing strategy.
Work closely with Medical Affairs colleagues, especially Medical Science Liaisons, to support business objectives.
Build strong relationships with customers, thought leaders, internal marketing and sales colleagues, and regional/global Medical Affairs teams.
Provide product and development-project training to marketing and sales teams and external medical education to physicians.
Educate internal colleagues regarding compliance with the applicable Country Code of Conduct.
Provide comprehensive and proactive Medical, Medical Information and Pharmacovigilance support.
Provide overall medical input into Integrated Brand Plans for assigned therapeutic areas, scientific expertise, promotional-material review, thought-leader management, speaker development and training.
Take responsibility for Business Unit study-development programs, including local Non-Interventional Studies and Investigator-Initiated Research, and ensure activities follow applicable regulations and guidelines.
Act as local medical expert for Global Clinical Development, provide medical input on clinical-trial queries and participate in site-feasibility activities.
Represent Bayer at external regulatory meetings related to assigned products and therapy areas.
Respond accurately, transparently and professionally to scientific and medical queries from physicians, regulatory authorities and the public.
Support Local Safety Issue and Crisis Management with Headquarters and contribute to the local Safety Management Team.
Review patient-support programs, market-research activities and active/online-listening programs for potential Pharmacovigilance implications and ensure appropriate PV principles are applied.
Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with thought leaders, medical societies and associations.
Serve as medical contact for thought leaders and external medical experts.
Collaborate with marketing teams to develop and conduct Advisory Boards, congresses and symposia.
Medical Affairs, Regulatory & Safety Standards
Provide high-level medical advice to the R&D Head and Business Units.
Support timely new-product registration and provide medical information for existing products to internal staff and customers.
Maintain current knowledge of changing regulatory requirements and ensure compliance with legislation and regulatory demands.
Maintain high Pharmacovigilance and Medical Affairs standards.
Exercise sound medical judgment on critical safety issues and product-safety actions.
Maintain inspection readiness and manage medical and safety risks within assigned therapeutic areas.
Provide medical oversight for Non-Interventional Studies to support study objectives and high-quality data for global research programs.
Business & Leadership Impact
The role positions Medical Affairs as a strategic partner to Bayer Business Units by converting scientific and medical evidence into practical information for commercial teams while maintaining appropriate compliance, safety and scientific standards. The Senior Medical Advisor works across Medical Affairs, Marketing, Sales, Regulatory Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, Medical Information, Clinical Research, R&D and global/regional stakeholders.
