ROLE DEFINITION & RESPONSIBILITIES

Role Overview

Manager Clinical Data Management role within Thermo Fisher Scientific's PPD clinical research organization.
The role manages a small team of clinical data management project staff and their workload.
Responsible for staff leadership, portfolio oversight, resource allocation, quality, timelines, budgets, training, mentoring, and process development.
The position supports clinical research programs serving pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients across global clinical trials.

People Management & Leadership

Manage assigned staff, including interviewing and selection, job-description preparation, professional development, goal setting, performance management, coaching, mentoring, employee counseling, and separations.
Approve or support decisions involving salary administration, hiring, corrective action, and terminations.
Review and approve time records, expense reports, leave requests, and overtime.
Effectively manage, motivate, supervise, and delegate work to team members.
Set and manage individual and team timelines and recognize when project demands require scheduling changes.

Clinical Data Management & Portfolio Oversight

Provide support, oversight, and coaching to portfolio teams.
Ensure assigned tasks are completed accurately, on time, within budget, and according to client expectations.
Provide study-level expertise for Clinical Data Management processes.
Assist with operational activities for studies or portfolios, with particular focus on quality and effective support to the Study Manager.
Ensure staff comply with documented procedures, regulatory guidelines, SOPs, and client expectations.

Resource & Operational Management

Manage resource allocations for assigned staff.
Participate in global resource reporting and strategic resource planning with senior management.
Monitor workload and staffing requirements to support portfolio delivery.
Help ensure project objectives, timelines, quality standards, and budget expectations are maintained.

Process, Training & Development

Participate in development and implementation of Clinical Data Management processes and procedures.
Contribute to training programs for the Data Management function.
Support implementation of operational activities and quality-focused improvements.
Collaborate with senior management on training, mentoring, and guidance for project staff and direct reports.

Quality, Compliance & Data Confidentiality

Apply clinical data management knowledge while adhering to regulatory guidelines, SOPs, documented procedures, and client expectations.
Maintain a high degree of confidentiality when handling clinical data and client proprietary information.
Demonstrate strong attention to detail and accuracy with numerical information.
Maintain quality standards throughout study and portfolio activities.

Communication & Analytical Requirements

Strong written and verbal communication skills with good English grammar.
Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Strong interpersonal skills for interaction with staff, study teams, clients, and senior management.
Ability to organize work effectively and respond to changing project requirements.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant academic/vocational qualification.
Previous experience providing the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for Clinical Data Management responsibilities, stated in the posting as comparable to 0–5 years.
At least 1 year of leadership responsibility.
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and directly related experience may be considered.

Working Environment

Standard Monday–Friday work schedule.
Office-based working environment with exposure to standard electrical office equipment.
Frequent travel to site locations.
Domestic and international travel may be required.
