Role Overview
Lab Specialist at the Singapore Illumina Solutions Center, supporting Commercial and Service organizations and laboratory projects across the AMEA region. The position combines hands-on genomics laboratory work with laboratory operations, inventory management, equipment readiness, safety, quality, facility support, and cross-functional collaboration. The appointment is a 12-month fixed-term contract.
Core Laboratory Responsibilities
Conduct laboratory work supporting Illumina library preparation, sequencing, and microarray products.
Participate in experimental design, data generation, and data analysis.
Conduct laboratory experiments from planning through data analysis.
Apply hands-on experience with Illumina library preparation, sequencing, and/or microarray workflows.
Work effectively in a wet-lab environment containing standard laboratory equipment.
Laboratory Operations & Facility Management
Maintain laboratory organization, cleanliness, and orderly working areas.
Administer communal laboratory stock.
Oversee cold-storage units and laboratory access procedures.
Maintain and organize laboratory equipment and supplies.
Coordinate laboratory equipment calibration and maintenance activities.
Keep equipment calibration and maintenance records current and accurate.
Track, order, and receive laboratory reagents and disposables, including chemicals, enzymes, buffers, pipette tips, reagent tubes, and related supplies.
Assist with facility-related activities such as equipment moves and space planning.
Provide ad-hoc support to members of the laboratory management team.
Environment, Health & Safety
Support Environment, Health & Safety activities within the laboratory.
Act as a point of contact for EH&S-related coordination where required.
Support risk assessments and safety inspections.
Help maintain appropriate safety and quality standards across laboratory operations.
Work with chemical handling, storage, and disposal requirements and other laboratory safety controls.
Equipment & Technical Environment
Experience is required in a wet laboratory or equivalent environment containing equipment such as liquid-handling robots, safety cabinets, compressed-gas systems, centrifuges, PCR machines, and equipment used for chemical handling and disposal.
Collaboration & Customer Focus
Support projects across the AMEA region.
Collaborate with Commercial and Service organizations.
Work with other departments on cross-functional projects.
Work collaboratively within a highly matrixed organization.
Provide strong internal and customer-focused service.
Communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience
Advanced degree (PhD or MSc) in Genetics or Molecular Biology with 2+ years of wet-lab experience; OR Bachelor of Science with 4+ years of wet-lab experience.
Hands-on experience successfully running Illumina library preparation, sequencing, and/or microarray products.
Demonstrated ability to perform experiments from planning through data analysis.
Experience working in or supervising a wet laboratory or equivalent environment.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced and changing laboratory environment.

Employment & Eligibility

Location: Singapore - Biopolis.
