ROLE DEFINITION & RESPONSIBILITIES

Role Overview

Support Amgen's Operations Transformation and Digital Strategy (OTDS) by designing and delivering next-generation AI solutions that modernise how enterprise data, knowledge and content are created, connected, governed and consumed.
Scale Generative AI, agentic AI, integrated data and semantic technologies across high-impact business domains, particularly regulatory, operational and data-centric use cases.
Combine deep technical expertise with strategic thinking, product thinking and delivery accountability within a highly regulated pharmaceutical environment.

Core Responsibilities

Ensure successful delivery of AI initiatives aligned with OTDS transformation goals.
Design and oversee AI solutions using Generative AI, large language models and agentic AI patterns.
Guide intelligent systems combining structured and unstructured data, semantic models and knowledge graphs.
Move AI solutions from proof-of-concept through scalable, enterprise-ready production products.
Provide technical leadership in Python development, SQL-based data transformation and AI system design.
Collaborate with business stakeholders, product teams, architects and engineering partners to define and deliver high-impact AI use cases.
Drive FAIR data principles, data-centric design and semantic interoperability.
Oversee AWS services and cloud best practices, including AWS Bedrock, to support scalable and secure architecture.
Guide AI applications using OpenAI APIs and foundation-model platforms.
Ensure effective use of Databricks and enterprise data platforms for scalable AI development and deployment.
Establish and enforce standards for Responsible AI, model governance, security and compliance, including awareness of the EU AI Act.
Act as a liaison between OTDS leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to align priorities and transformation outcomes.
Facilitate strategic discussions and working sessions around AI vision, roadmaps and value realisation.
Promote continuous improvement, innovation and operational excellence.
Monitor advances in AI, agentic architectures and regulatory expectations and guide their effective application.

Technical & AI Expertise

Deep expertise in Generative AI, LLMs and agentic AI applications.
Advanced Python capability for AI solution development and scaling.
Strong SQL skills for enterprise data integration and analysis.
AWS cloud experience and well-architected design principles, including AWS Bedrock.
OpenAI API experience and enterprise AI solution development.
Hands-on Databricks or comparable data/AI platform experience.
Understanding of enterprise data ecosystems and integrated data architectures.
Knowledge-graph technologies such as Stardog or GraphDB and semantic-data approaches.
Strong understanding and application of FAIR data principles.
Ability to translate business strategy into scalable AI solutions and execution roadmaps.
Understanding of Responsible AI governance and compliance requirements.
Familiarity with AI regulatory considerations, including EU AI Act concepts.

Preferred Domain Expertise

Pharmaceutical or life-sciences experience, particularly regulatory or operational use cases.
Regulatory data, submission processes and compliance frameworks.
Machine learning and deep-learning techniques supporting GenAI applications.
Integration across clinical, manufacturing, quality or regulatory systems.
FHIR, IDMP or comparable healthcare-data standards.
Scaling AI solutions into enterprise products and platforms.
Structured content management and AI-driven content automation.

Leadership & Business Impact

Influence AI strategy and best practices within OTDS.
Align AI initiatives with enterprise transformation objectives and measurable business value.
Build cross-functional alignment across technical and business stakeholders without relying on direct authority.
Manage ambiguity and provide clarity across multiple AI transformation initiatives.
Maintain a customer- and product-oriented mindset while owning both business impact and delivery outcomes.
Promote innovation, transformation and operational excellence in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

Master's degree OR Bachelor's degree with 7-12 years of experience in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Information Science or a related field.
Strong communication, stakeholder-management, analytical and problem-solving skills.
